Artist Statement
“You don’t take a photograph, you make it.”
Ansel Adams
I can still vividly remember the moment when I discovered that photography is more than just snapping a picture, but it is instead a gorgeous creation and form of self-expression. After that revelation, I asked for a simple point-and-shoot camera for my next birthday, later I saved up all my money to buy my very own SLR (Sony NEX-3), and now I'm working on buying lenses. These cameras encouraged me to take photography seriously. So much goes in to figuring out how to make the most of a single moment in time. For me, photography changes the way I view the world. I look at everything as a potential picture, the placement of a pile of sticks, the way the light shines through the window, or how the repeating steps create a sense of rhythm. Whenever I go out to take photos, I always feel inspired and like I’ve accomplished something great. I love that satisfying feeling I get when I know I’ve just taken an amazing shot. For the next few days, that picture keeps coming back into my thoughts. My favorite photos are the ones that make people think, the ones that people have to look at more than once, and the ones that spark emotions and feelings. Though I don’t plan on being a professional photographer, I know photography will somehow stay a part of my life forever.
